Assistants are the most flexible of all crewmembers. Their lack of fixed objectives and more opportunities for personal goals make them stand out from most other professions. They are recommended to new players, those still learning the basics of Space Station 13 itself, and Splurt alongside those who wish to explore a unique gimmick or playstyle. When playing as an Assistant, one should be aware that they are taking the role of a civilian in the station. Being the lowest-ranking crewmember around leaves you open to assisting other players in a multitude of duties! You might sweet-talk your way with a HoP and ask for another role. Maybe give the cook a hand in making some burgers? Who knows, maybe you could become the station's newer bartender in the totally legal maintenance bar!
Do what you feel like doing, while also respecting the server's rules, of course. Write thousands of lines about your character getting into a deep philosophical discussion about toolboxes, or maybe find love for the duration of the shift!
Requirements: Respect the rules, other players and the in-game law.

Assisting People
You can ask over the radio (By using; at the start of the sentence) to ask if anyone needs help with anything. If that doesn't work, you may also approach them directly! When interacting with another player, be sure to read the room and let the flow of the conversation come naturally. Splurt follows a medium roleplay playstyle, meaning that an interaction that would otherwise sound not far from reality is welcome over a quick ''Give me a job, pls''.
If that doesn't work, or you are unlucky with finding someone to aid, fear not! You can always simply interact with that station's many unique faces. Have a talk with a gigantic skulldog and his bee in a bar. Maybe ask comment on a lizard's tail. Let your character exist in the setting, and develop relations, enemies, allies, and, most likely, a small amount of brain damage.
Duties
Assistants are usually the jack of all trades when it comes to their duties. They don't start with a clear goal, and naturally develop one across the duration of the shift, varying from building something to sleeping with someone!
Nonetheless, there are still certain regulations for an assistant role in the station. Those are mostly related to the server rules and common sense. The fact that you weren't assigned as a vital part of any department does not give you a white card to cause trouble with no actual purpose behind it. You should still, if possible, read Splurt's rules and ensure that you are acting up to the server's standards.
Gimmicks
Due to the lack of responsibility, you'll usually find that assistants are the ones responsible for renovating the bar with a dance floor or boxing ring, converting the dorms into interrogation rooms, and all other sorts of wacky projects. An assistant is also a good job for playing a single-round gimmick! Try your luck with an idea to make yourself stand out, such as these ones:
- Acolyte
- Actor
- Animal Handler
- Athlete
- Bean Counter
- Beggar
- Bro
- Boxer (at your own risk)
- Coach
- Consultant
- Daredevil
- Delivery Boy/Girl
- DJ
- Drunken Wreck
- Emissary from Another Planet
- Fanboy/girl
- Former Head of Security
- Gambler
- Gourmand
- Junk Collector
- Junkie
- Musician
- Paralegal
- Political Activist
- Political Prisoner
- Private Investigator
- Receptionist
- Safety Inspector
- Salesperson
